These aerial videos have been filmed at altitudes of 80-120 metres over scenic locations around Brisbane and South East Queensland using my DJI Phantom 3 Professional UAV (drone). The camera on this UAV can shoot 4K resolution (UHD) aerial video at 30 frames per second, creating cinema-like videos. Unfortunately Youtube compresses them and makes then less stunning, but still pretty awesome.
Romancing the ducks
This aerial video was filmed at Swanbank Reservoir. The cooling ponds for the gas-fired Swanbank Power Station attract a lot of water birds, which attract me.
Fantasy in the park
Colleges Crossing is a park on the Brisbane River on the border between Brisbane and Ipswich. Destroyed by the floods in 2011, it was completely and lovingly rebuilt and has become one of my favourite places to try out different aerial video techniques (usually at 5AM).
Catching the clouds at Moggill Reserve
This aerial video was filmed at the vacant sports reserve on Moggill Road, where I learned to fly my UAVs.
The Moggill Ferry is an icon of Western Brisbane, much loved by locals and fiercely defended when ever there is a threat to replace it with a bridge. I wanted to try to capture the heart of the ferry in these videos … unfortunately the dirty brown river made it look like I captured the opposite end.
Views from above Mount Cootha
This aerial video was filmed just after dawn on a foggy morning near Mount Cootha Lookout.
Birds at Wivenhoe
This aerial video was filmed around the picnic areas on the inside of the spillway at Lake Wivenhoe.
The Spillway at Lake Wivenhoe
This aerial video was filmed outside the dam wall at Wivenhoe (unfortunately there was no water coming out).
An eye over Lake Moogerah
This aerial video was filmed from the spillway side of Lake Moogerah looking across towards the camping areas.
An orbit of Colleges Crossing
This aerial video was filmed while testing a UAV IOS app called Autopilot by Auto Flight Logic which supports programmable flight paths.
Some views over Bellbowrie
My home suburb of Bellbowrie has been a favourite location to test and build my aerial video skills. These videos were filmed from the Bellbowrie Sports Ground.
Karana Downs Golf Club
This aerial video was shot when I was still learning how to control my UAV and at the invitation of the owner of the Golf Club.
